How to get your motivation back

I recently read this quote in Jim Rohn’s book The keys to success:

"When the WHY is strong, the HOW becomes easier."

I think it's such a powerful quote. I reflected a couple of minutes on it (and I invite you to do the same) and it’s so true: When the why is strong, the HOW becomes easier.

If you are not sure about HOW to do something because you’ve lost your motivation just try to think about your WHY.

Why do you want that thing? Why is that a goal of yours?

The first thing you have to ask yourself if you feel like you've lost your motivation is: Am I pursuing a dream of mine or just trying to emulate someone's else life and dream??

If you choose something like a career for example, only because you like the lifestyle of someone else with that role, that could not be the right motivation. So if you have chosen the wrong why, this could cause your lack of motivation overtime, because it’s like you’re trying to get something for the wrong reason, that at the end of the day it is not what would make you happy. It's easy to loose the motivation when it's not something that you really want, so if this is the case, more than working on your motivation, think again about your dream and adjust/change your plans.

If after asking that question above, the answer is yes, this is still my dream but you are missing the motivation these days, then this is what you have to do👇🏻

If you have chosen a goal for the right reason and you are not feeling motivated right now, think about your why, reflect on it, visualize it and you'll see that it can spark in you again the motivation because you remind yourself about your end goal and why you want that.

Example: I'm not motivated anymore to apply for jobs.

Think about your why. Why do you want that job? Because working in the fashion industry is my dream career, I'd love to be seated in a fashion office doing what I love every single day.

If you remind yourself of your why, that you want that job because you love to do something that you love everyday, and you focus on your WHY instead of your HOW, then you'll find your motivation back again and the HOW will become easier cause it's supported by a strong why.

#morningswithshine

The way you start your morning sets the tone for your entire day. That’s why having a morning routine is super important.

Take some time for yourself and do what you enjoy and makes you feel good.

This could mean to put your alarm one hour or 30 minutes earlier but you’ll be thankful for this time you reserve for doing something for you.

Upgrade your mornings this week by adding this workout to your routine (I'll do the same!)

Share your morning routine with us, use #morningswithshine and tag us at @glamobserver so each week we will feature the morning routine of one of you to keep the motivation going but it’s also a great way for you to connect with the other 35K members of this newsletter💖💖

I am going to start this is what I shared on my IG profile @giadaggraziano

This week I will

🥐 learn 2 new french words per day (Bonjour, croissant 🥐 )

(hey, if you stick to this for one year you have a vocabulary of 730 words! You’re fluent!)

👩🏻‍💻Connect with 5 new people via LinkedIn/Instagram

🔥Write a new powerful cover letter

You can save this template and use it to share your goals in your IG stories. Tag us at @glamobserver to get reposted :)

CAREER EXCLUSIVE TIP

(this is an exclusive tip of the Shine newsletter that you are not going to find anywhere else, you are now on a free trial, become a premium member if you want to keep receiving this issue and all the others, every week)

Why your next job is hiding inside fashion news

Reading fashion news is a great habit to develop and add to your daily routine. But the benefits don't end just to your knowledge and stay informed about what's happening in the industry. Inside fashion news you can spot a new job opportunity.

Want an example? If Vogue is opening a publication in a new market, like Vogue Belgium for example, it means that they will soon be hiring new people to add to the team or hiring new freelance writers. So even if in that article you are not going to find explicitly that they are hiring, it's better to keep an eye on the career pages of Vogue or get ready to cold email that company.

Start looking at fashion news with a new eye to see if you can spot some career opportunities. You have to be good at understanding them because you are not going to find explicitly that they will be hiring, but rest assured that a new store opening, a brand expansion (in a new country or category) a new company that gets IPO, a new brand launching... are all signs that those companies are investing in growth which means soon onboarding new people to the team whether it's full-time or as a freelance.

Stay organized this week:

  • Don't forget to write down your to-do list every day
  • Plan your meals in advance
  • Drink water 💧
  • Move your body for at least 30 minutes every day
  • Read 20 minutes per day
  • Listen to one podcast per day while having your daily walk
